It has been far too long since my last blog entry and a lot has happened since last summer. One of the more exciting and memorable things was Angie and I spent two weeks traveling Europe with Angie's parents John and Jone as well as Angie's brother and and our sister in law Rachel. It was such an amazing time stuffed with a thousand memories. We saw Paris, Vienna, Salzburg, Hitlers Eagle's nest in Germany, The blue Danube (it's really muddy a brown)Prague, Venice, and the island of Murano.

One of my favorite things about having children is when they experience something new. It kind of makes me look at the experience like I'm doing it for the first time too even though I have done it my whole life. Like digging into your first Bear Lake Raspberry shake. Tastes even better than I remembered. Ryan I love this picture. It is the moment that Piper first tastes something like this. (I think I'm getting too Philosophical about ice cream)

I guess the instructions for the Thunderbird pilots was to make a banking right turn over South Ogden then do a fly-over above 1150 E. We had great front yard seats!

The one hour dog

Today after I washed the car in the driveway, the cutest little "Paris Hilton" puppy (Yorkshire terrier) wandered in to our yard. Piper got to play with him for about an hour and Luckily it had a tag with a phone number on it and the lady owner was crazy happy that we found her dog.

Well, it's springtime in Montana. It has been our family tradition since I was a Boyscout to load up the Wagoneer, Landcruiser, Pathfinder, Suburban or Range Rover and enjoy some early season fishing in "Big sky country" It seems like it is also family tradition to be stranded on a dirt road a few hundred miles from home and/or up to our collective necks in cold water or mud. This year we kept the tradition alive!! and as well as every other time, it was a Duesey! My Dad, myself and two brothers were all set for a long sunny day on the Beaverhead. The sky was clear and warm, the jagged mountain peaks were still blanketed with snow, and on opening day the Browns would be biting! You see, I come from a bold family heritage that doesn't follow convention or common sense for that matter, they don't have fishing on the Moon, but we still like to chase the trout where no man has gone before. To get to our favorite spot, requires getting a little mud on the tires! It's one of those things that in the moment you want to walk all the way back home, but when it's all over and I look back we still had an awesome time enjoying each others company, catching a few big ones, eating an great steak dinner and breathing the clear mountain air. I was in church about a month ago when a member of the ward asked me about the goings on in our family. What we were doing and such. I told him how we were soon leaving for Hawaii for a family vacation, and we would be staying at my wife's uncle's vacation home on Kona, and I asked if he happened to know Rod. (Angie's uncle) He said... you mean... Poor, Poor Rod.

Well, we got to Hawaii and it all makes sense.

We were the guests of our now favorite uncle and aunt Rod and MaryAnn Garner. We had the most wonderful time in their home in Hawaii, Such a beautiful and comfortable place We can't thank them enough. Here's some pictures from our Hawaii trip.

I miss you Billy

Four years ago today, (Feb 4, 2005) my Uncle and friend Bill Brown died of brain cancer.

When I returned from my mission, Bill pulled some strings and got me a job, and

I had the privilege to work with Bill for 13 years at Fresenius Medical Care.

That's a lot of years in the same building together, day in day out, and I can tell you that

Bill was loved by a lot of people. I still get questions from Bill's friends at Fresenius wanting to know how his family is doing. I now work in the same shop that Bill managed for the Molding Department, and four years later, it's still a common occurrence when a James Taylor tune is heard on the radio, for four grown men to slow down their work and with a few tears in our eyes, remember of our friend Bill.

Happy Birthday Ryan!
I know that Ry might not be too happy that I am posting this but it's his Birthday and Piper and I wanted to let him know how much we love him. I am so grateful for you as a husband and a father. I appreciate all you do for our family and how hard you work to make everything better. I look forward to spending the evening with you in Park City and dinner at Ruth's Chris. You deserve a nice night out!

The Christmas Project 2008

To me it just wouldn't be feel like Christmas without a secret project to be busy working on. It really gets me in the nostalgic Christmas mood when I have a little something to work on during the season. I think I can blame it all on my Mom and Dad and even trace my sneaky genes all the way back to my Grandma Brown. She recently told me that she would stay up many nights before Christmas while everyone in the house slept, and she would lovingly stitch up beautiful clothes for all of her kids. Shirts, jackets, pants, even a entire wardrobe for one of my mother's dolls. She said that one year she hand made 38 articles of clothing for Christmas morning!!! What an amazing Grandma!

A few months ago, I was at my parents house, and Dad was cleaning out the attic and found one of my favorite gifts that I got when I was maybe 5 or 6, and he thought that It might be better in my attic instead of his.

This favorite gift of mine was an old time runner sled that Santa probably stayed up some nights to work on just special for me. I remember seeing it under the tree for the first time that day with "Ryan's Racer" painted on the top. It really intrigued me when I watched Dad heat up the metal runners with a flame then rub white parafin wax the length of the sled just to make it that much faster. Then, finding a good hill (snow packed roads worked best) letting fly, and steering around the man hole covers. So many years had passed since I had taken a look at the old racer and I now see it with different eyes. I will hang on to it forever. Thanks for the great present Dad.

With some help from the Internet and some crazy but very helpful vintage sled enthusiasts, I was able to discover that I was probably not the Racer's first owner. I strategically removed some paint on the back of the wood deck, and by some other markings I was able to identify

that it is a.... 1935 Flexible Flyer 41 inch "Airline Pilot" model D

That makes it 74 years old!!!!

With that information I just couldn't let it collect 30 more years of dust in the dark attic. So I spent the better part of my spare time in December returning the racer to it's glory. Starting with cutting all of the rivets that held it together, chasing down 3 local sandblasters to prep the runners, The first two didn't appreciate my vision. A shot of primer, 2 coats of red paint and a few more clear coats all done in secret in Grandmas basement. I was able to keep the original Ryan's Racer wood deck intact and I cut, routered, and sanded some beautiful American Black Walnut for the new deck. (My favorite wood) I think it kind of has a "Fire Engine" look to it now with all the natural brown wood, red runners, gold stripes, and brass hardware. It is one of those labors of love that took way too long to complete but maybe in 30 years it will also be seen with different eyes, and my little Piper will know that her Dad loved her too. Ryan

Today we decided to get our Christmas tree, and in the mean time I got a little Christmas spirit. Here are a few pictures.

This year is Piper's second Christmas, and Angie and I are really looking forward to sharing and enjoying this beautiful season with our sweet little girl. She was only a few months old last time around and of course had no idea how much fun it all is.

Last year on Christmas morning, she kind of just sat there while Ang and I exchanged our gifts, and wasn't offended in the least that her stocking was completely empty. (I think in 2007 Santa brought infant diapers and formula)

In fact, I don't think that it will be until next year or the year after that it will all make sense with the realization of Santa Claus, and his eight tiny reindeer, or for her first time, hearing the true story of baby Jesus in the manger, and the real miracle that is Christmas.

This year should be a lot of fun though.

I think that Christmas 2008 will go down in our family lore as the "Christmas of Destruction" as that Piper is highly skilled at breaking stuff!

Every time you turn around she wants to smash an iPod or throw a new digital camera down the stairs. I have a stack of important Church papers that always end up in her clutches, torn, slobbered on and strangely smelling like bananas. So... with Christmas just a few weeks away I don't think that fragile ornaments on the tree, or beautifully wrapped packages stand a chance against the lovable whirlwind that we call Piper.

Having a genuine toddler around has been one of the funnest things that I have ever experienced. Every day is such a new adventure for her. It seems like she never gets tired of Dad giving her a bubble bath after a fun game of "Throw the spaghetti sauce on the carpet" or Momma reading her stories, Grandma giving her loves and kisses, Riding on daddy's shoulders, or pitching my steel toed work boots at the new TV set

One of Piper's special talents is that she speaks her own foreign language that nobody can understand but her. What a vocabulary! If only we had a clue as to what she is saying. Although, I have recently deciphered some of her words....

tinkeebobo = I just messed my diaper Dad, would you mind taking care of it for me.

(She says money in place of nemo) (and she may be dyslexic)

Anyway, we have a lot of fun times to look forward to in the next few weeks. Break out the gift wrap, and the Nat King Cole, Christmas will be here before you know it! Ryan

Well,

I guess I am now an official trendy blogger. It seems like just about everyone we know has their own fancy web page, with ACTUAL digital images of ribbons and bows, and while we don't have a whole lot to write about in our new blog such as exotic vacations and such, maybe once and a while I will be the proud daddy and show off some baby pictures and let the world in on what our family is up to. My wife Angie has been wanting me to create a page like this to share with our friends so this is my first attempt.

About our blog name...

"1 House 3 Beds" is a reference to the sleeping arrangements at the Wolthuis home. My wife Angie is usually sprawled out in the up-stairs bedroom's giant King size bed

all to herself. Just across the hall our sweet little One year old daughter Piper has her own luxury baby suite that she sleeps in. So the room that I am left with is down three flights of stairs in the cold and lonely basement. Just kidding! it's not that cold.

When we got married five years ago I had no idea that I snore like a chainsaw. Angie on the other hand is a very light and peaceful sleeper, so with me sawing logs all night long, you will have to trust that while we do love each other, our crazy combination in the same bed just does'nt make for a happy wife in the morning. Hence...
